Group 7: Tactical Design Precedents

CASE 1: The 100 Union Street, London

The agents:

EXYZT, LAKE ESTATE

Intended audience:

The families who could meet as neighbours

The long-term purpose of the project:

In 1830, everyone could use their front room as a stall to sell their beer which is brewed by themselves according to Beer Act. This project was based on the history and tried to illustrate what could be a Public House more than a pub. EXYZT lived on site as hosts in order to make sure the public house is welcome and open to the public. Also, the site they used was vacant at that time, and they want to exploit the potential of the site.

Tactical operation:

The heart of southwark is occupied by office activities. Since 2008, a vision for a long-term development with Lake estate has been created with Lake estate. It was built by handcraft. The members of EXYZT used wood to set up the public house which could save time and reduce cost. Unlike the southwark made earlier which took advantage of the enclosed land, EXYZT combined the land with public spaces to create a site hoarding where each element is a draw bridge allowing to be more permeable to the street.

Intended audience:

The general public

The long-term purpose of the project:

General public know that human is an essential factor to cause the climate change, rising temperature. However, the truth is that this situation will happen no matter what with or without human beings. Research shows that the climate change is a cycle of 120,000 years. In the course, The sea level will fluctuate between 6 meters and 120 meters. Participants of the project aim to tell the truth to the general public.

Tactical operation:

Actually, the function of the structure is dissemination. The structure will realize a traveling exhibition along the Europeans coastline. For responding to the demand of mobility, designers chose to use the light wood. In addition, when people climb to the top flat of the structure, climate curve has been showed in the stairwell. Thus the interaction has happened and people will memorize the experience clearly. In the journey of climbing the structure, the aim of disseminating the scientific truth has been achieved.
