Group 7: Neighbourhood tactics

This is the first draft we learned and researched about the Park Station in the inner city of Johannesburg. The research structure roughly consists of three parts below.

The first part is the site analysis of mobility and land use. From the large scale of the whole inner city, we analyzed the accessibility of the transport system from the Park Station to the surrounding areas in the inner city. Also, from the scale of the site, we analyzed road levels and bus stops. Then, we analyzed the land use of the Park Station such as some educational buildings and abandoned buildings and some informal trades along the streets.

Later, after the analysis of the site, we found problems of mobility and land use. For example, the lack of green space and some traffic signals on roads, also, cultural land is not enough for people there. Last but not least, informal trades are always occupying some main roads.

To conclude, we propose six tactical interventions to our context analysis. For instance, adding zebra crossing and improving the landscape in the middle of the road, adding the greenway to connect different traffic nodes and creating more cultural events in the buildings or on the open space.
